Karina
Karina is a 40-year-old Shipibo woman and the president of the Cantagallo community in Lima. Deeply committed to the well-being and future of her people, she plays an active role in supporting the community’s development across many dimensions, from social initiatives to cultural preservation. She is particularly dedicated to ensuring that the richness of Shipibo heritage continues to thrive among younger generations growing up in an urban environment, where external influences are strong and ever-present.
An entrepreneur and artist, Karina is also known for her refined craftsmanship in traditional Kene work and beadwork. She creates intricate jewelry and leads workshops where she shares her knowledge and skills with others, encouraging both learning and cultural pride. Through her work, she empowers women and contributes to the transmission of ancestral practices, while also raising her two daughters with strength and independence. Her path reflects both resilience and a deep sense of responsibility toward her community and its cultural legacy.
